Biosolids Intensification

The Great Bug Migration - Thermal Hydrolysis Anaerobic Digester Seeding with Re-hydrated Cake

This presentation focuses on the commissioning of the new 2.7MG digesters, specifically the hauling of 961yd3 hydrolyzed dewatered cake from Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (AWWTP) in Washington DC that was trucked to Dallas and re-hydrated to seed the first digester over the course of a 10-day seeding activity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the key factors in successfully re-hydrating dewatered cake and using it as digester seeding material.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to explain how to plan for safety in temporary facilities during construction and commissioning and startup.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss the optimization of temporary equipment to maximize operational flexibility and minimize cost.
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to recognize the importance of pre-planning and testing, even with temporary facilities, to minimize risk during startup activities.
