PFAS and Pyrolysis: What does it take to destroy PFAS in biosolids?

Attendees will gain an understanding to what PFAS are, their impact to wastewater industry, and research studies underway as they relate to PFAS destruction in biosolids. Additionally, participants will hear from SVCW's on their experience operating the systems related to their pyrolysis system and lessons learned.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion, attendees will be able to understand sources of PFAS, current regulations and why PFAS pose a challenge to biosolids management
  • Utilities will be able to assess whether a pyrolysis system is a good fit for their own utilities based on the real world experience and data provided by SVCW
  • Upon completion, participants will be able to describe various destruction technologies for PFAS in biosolids and the work that is underway to understand PFAS destruction comprehensively
  • Upon completion, attendees will be able to understand the state of the pyrolysis and gasification technologies, including improvements, challenges and areas requiring further study
