This presentation will discuss a novel adsorption-bioxidation (A/B) process that utilized side stream fermentation of waste activated sludge (WAS) to generate volatile fatty acids (VFAs) that support mainstream enhanced biological phosphorus removal and denitrification without having to provide external supplemental carbon addition.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the role of carbon, in its various forms, in biological nutrient removal processes.
List the key parameters controlling the capture of carbon in HRAS systems.
Describe the four general steps of anaerobic digestion and how fermentation fits into these four steps.
