WRRF Optimization Strategies

A Proactive Approach for Continuous Plant Performance Improvement

This session will outline the continuous improvement framework employed by staff from the Central Marin Sanitation Agency (CMSA) and Hazen and Sawyer to trouble-shoot recent challenges at CMSA's Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF). Three case studies will be used to highlight the benefits of a proactive approach to continuous improvement.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how the type of digester feed and timing of loading can impact alkalinity levels and overall digester health.
  • Describe possible causes for a loss of chlorine residual and understand mitigation strategies that could be employed by operators to mitigate low chlorine residual.
  • Calculate sludge loading using two different methods and understand what field checks and data checks can be performed to validate load calculations for digester management.
